Marawi Student Wins Gold — Mohammad Nur “Iman” Casib, an “Maranao people” incoming Grade 12 student from Philippine Science High School (PSHS) Central Mindanao Campus, won gold and was honored as Nuclear Ambassador at the 1st International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) held in Pampanga from August 1 to 6, 2024. Competing against 55 students from 14 Asia-Pacific countries, Casib earned the highest overall points in the theoretical and experimental exams.

The competition covered topics like atomic structure, radiation, and nuclear applications in various fields. Other Filipino participants also excelled, including Neil Kyle Olaer Maniquis from Manila Science High School, who also won gold. The event was organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) Philippine Nuclear Research Institute, aiming to promote awareness of peaceful nuclear applications.

In related events, the Philippine team also secured bronze medals and honorable mentions at the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad in Saudi Arabia and achieved remarkable success at the 10th Asean+3 Junior Science Odyssey in Cambodia.
