What does Muslim mean in Arabic?

< 1 min read

In Arabic, the word “Muslim” (مسلم) means “one who submits” or “one who surrenders.” It comes from the root word “سلام” (salaam), which means “peace.” Therefore, a Muslim is someone who submits to the will of Allah (God) and follows the teachings of Islam, seeking peace through their faith and obedience.

Muslims gather for communal prayers and religious activities in a place of worship called a “masjid” (مسجد). The term “masjid” translates to “mosque” in English. The masjid is a central place for worship, community events, and educational activities in the Muslim faith.
