E-numbers and additives

Concept

Many E-numbers are fine, some depend on the source.

E-numbers identify food additives. Most are plant, mineral or synthetic, but some, such as E441, E471 and E120, depend on the source or are disputed. Use the E-code guide in the Learn section and confirm with the certifier.

Where to verify

JAKIM · Department of Islamic Development Malaysia
Malaysian halal authority. Its Halal Malaysia portal lists certified products and recognised foreign certifiers.

Always confirm on the certifier's own website. This page is general education, not a fatwa.
