Emulsifiers and E471

Doubtful (mushbooh)

Fat source can be animal (including pork) or plant.

E471 and related emulsifiers are made from fatty acids. Those fatty acids can come from plant oil or from animal fat, including pork fat, and the label rarely says which. A halal certificate settles the question.

Where to verify

JAKIM · Department of Islamic Development Malaysia

IDCP · Islamic Da'wah Council of the Philippines, Inc.

Always confirm on the certifier's own website. This page is general education, not a fatwa.
